The National Heat Pump Awards 2011 have been launched to reward and celebrate the best new advances in heat pump technology and outstanding applications in buildings and industry.
Launched with the backing of key organisations and leading companies, the new annual awards will provide a national showcase for the latest developments in this vital and rapidly developing area of sustainable technology.
Heat pumps capture free energy from the environment – from the air, ground or water – and harness it to provide low-cost, low-carbon heating for homes, commercial premises and industry. Heat pumps are many times more efficient than conventional gas or electric appliances, dramatically cutting running costs and safeguarding the environment.
Chairing the distinguished judging panel is Tony Bowen, president of the award’s patron organisation, the Heat Pump Association (HPA), and a life-long advocate and supporter of heat pump technology.
Tony Bowen said: "On behalf of the Heat Pump Association, I am delighted to welcome the National Heat Pump Awards competition, which will at last recognise the efforts and ingenuity being applied around the UK to develop this enormously important technology.
“The competition will both reward and motivate the thousands of companies and individuals in the market. The HPA is happy to become Patron of the awards."
The awards will act as a focus of excellence, to show what the latest technology can achieve and highlight outstanding work by the people and organisations driving developments forward.
The event takes place on 23rd June, 2011, at the International Convention Centre (ICC) in the heart of Birmingham. The gala black-tie evening at only £145 plus VAT will include a pre-dinner drinks reception, a sumptuous four-course dinner, wine at table plus top flight professional presentation with celebrity entertainment.
Key industry bodies supporting the awards include the Heat Pump Association (HPA), the Air Conditioning and Heat Pump Institute (ACHPI) and the Heating and Ventilating Contractors’ Association (HVCA). Other leading organisations are expected to confirm their support shortly. Official sponsors confirmed to date include Mitsubishi Electric, Toshiba Carrier UK, Calorex and the HVCA, with a raft of other top names currently lining up to confirm their backing.
Following recent rises in energy costs and planned introduction of the Government’s Renewable Heat Incentive, demand for heat pumps is set to take off as customers see the remarkable savings that can be achieved.
Advances in technology coupled with new installer training schemes mean that the long-anticipated promise of heat pumps can finally be realised, as heat pumps enter the mainstream.
As the market expands, the awards will provide a benchmark of excellence for customers and industry professionals. There are ten award categories, and organisations and individuals are now invited to enter:
• Installation of the year:
• Domestic, air source
• Domestic, ground/water source
• Commercial, air source

The event is being organised on behalf of the industry by the publishers of Heat Pumps Today, ACR Today and Consulting Engineer magazine.
