Independent Welsh planning consultancy DPP saw the doors open on a new Tesco store in Llandrindod Wells on the 19 July 2010.
DPP successfully negotiated full planning consent for the new store, together with a petrol filling station and Territorial Army/Air Training Centre (TA/ATC) facility in October 2009 on the site of the former office supplies company Setten and Durwood.
The TA/ATC, which was facilitated by the Tesco proposal, has proven to be an extremely successful new facility for the area.
Meryl Lewis, a senior planner in the Cardiff office of DPP said: “Consent was secured in 2006 for a smaller store, but after extensive community consultation the need for a petrol filling station was identified, which was then included as part of this larger scheme.”
The planning consent required the relocation of the existing Western Power Distribution facility, which was the subject of a separate planning application submitted for a site within Llandrindod Wells.
Meryl adds: “DPP played a key role in securing this planning consent. The new store has generated a number of new jobs and ensured that retail expenditure remains in Llandrindod Wells. The new store has also brought back into beneficial use a key edge-of-centre brownfield site that will help encourage further investment into the area.” |
