Cycle challenge for Lafarge employees

Lafarge employees will be hoping to amass cash to help disadvantaged young people thanks to a sponsored cycle ride in aid of The Prince's Trust.

Team Lafarge, so far made up of 13 employees of Lafarge Aggregates and Concrete UK, is among the riders signed up for the Palace to Palace event on September 26.

The 45 mile route, as the name suggests, takes participants from outside Buckingham Palace on the Mall in London through parks and countryside to Windsor Castle.

Around 3,000 cyclists are expected to take part, each having to raise a minimum of £45 for The Prince's Trust, a charity set up by HRH Prince Charles to help disadvantaged young people get into work.

Prince's Trust Ambassadors, actor James Midgley and his wife, TV celebrity Jenni Falconer will be among those in the saddle.

Among those joining them will be Lafarge asphalt analyst, 21-year-old Tom Preston, based at Granite House, Syston.

Tom took part last year and immediately signed up again when details of this year's event were released. He said:

"It's a fantastic event. The Prince's Trust is a great cause to raise money for and it's really satisfying to know your involvement is helping youngsters who are not so well off. It's also great for team spirit and building relationships with the people you work with here at Lafarge who will be cycling with you on the day."

Tom and the rest of Team Lafarge want to better their fundraising total of just under £1,000 which was amassed last year.

Team Lafarge is open to all Lafarge Aggregates & Concrete UK employees and their family and friends but the first ten places have been sponsored by the company with entrance fees, transport and accommodation costs being met.
